Body Shape Calculator is a free web tool app that finds your body shape from four measurements: bust, waist, high hip and hips. The app runs in your browser, needs no account and returns one of 8 body shapes in seconds.
Body Shape Calculator combines the tools with guides that explain each body shape, how to measure, what to wear and how waist-to-hip ratio relates to health. The sections below describe the tools, how the app works, the rules and sources behind each result, and what the app does not do.
What Is Body Shape Calculator?
Body Shape Calculator is a web tool app, not a clinic, a fashion brand or a company. The app turns body measurements into a body shape result, then links each result to a guide for that shape. Body Shape Calculator works on phones and computers.
Which Tools Does Body Shape Calculator Include?

How Does Body Shape Calculator Work?
Body Shape Calculator works by comparing the differences between your measurements with fixed rules. A 2-inch difference between bust and hips means the same at every size, so the rules work for petite, average and plus size bodies. The rules are checked in a fixed order, and the first matching rule gives your result. Measurements that match no rule return "between shapes" with the closest shape.
Which Rules and Sources Does Body Shape Calculator Use?
Body Shape Calculator uses published research for its main rules and labels every rule it adds itself.
- Female shapes: the Female Figure Identification Technique (FFIT) by Simmons, Istook and Devarajan (2004), as published in the FFIT-based classification by Lee, Istook, Nam and Park (2007).
- Apple shape: this app's own rule (waist equal to or larger than bust and hips), because FFIT has no apple class.
- Male shapes: this app's own rules based on the trapezoid, inverted triangle, rectangle, triangle and oval names used in fashion.
- Waist-to-hip ratio: the World Health Organization expert consultation on waist circumference and waist-hip ratio (2008).
- Shape shares: the North Carolina State University body-scan study of more than 6,300 women (2006).
The editorial policy explains how each fact is checked against its primary source.
Does Body Shape Calculator Store Your Measurements?
Body Shape Calculator does not store your measurements. All calculations run in your browser, and nothing you enter is sent to a server. The privacy policy gives the details.
What Body Shape Calculator Does Not Do
Body Shape Calculator does not give medical advice, diagnose health conditions or judge attractiveness. A body shape result describes proportion only. Waist-to-hip ratio results are information to discuss with a doctor.
